Other Things to Note
The town of Uvita is rich in restaurants for every budget, from upscale dining to modest family-style local eateries (called “sodas”) offering great seafood (of course) and typical Costa Rican dishes. Uvita has many bars, grocery stores, surf shops, clothing stores, souvenir shops, and tour operators. We have several bank branches, pharmacies, medical and dental offices. The main car rental agencies are here, as well as a new police station and a new bus station, located just 45 minutes from two regional airports (one to the north, one to the south), and 20 minutes from the regional hospital.
Uvita’s beaches and surrounding areas are part of Costa Rica’s only marine national park. The Marino Ballena National Park also hosts the annual Whale and Dolphin Festival (held in September). During these times, hundreds of whales return to Uvita from the southern and northern hemispheres.
“The Marino National Park is nationally and internationally recognized for the annual visit of several species of cetaceans, such as the humpback whale, pilot whale, Bryde’s whale, false killer whales, and three resident species of dolphins including bottlenose, spotted, and spinner dolphins, as well as several species of sea turtles: Hawksbill, Green, and Olive Ridley.”
September and October are also the peak of turtle mating season, and you may have the chance to spot a turtle heading to the beach. Of course, just observe, give them space, and avoid trying to touch them.
Our site manager, Ramie, can recommend many activities and is known for finding good discounts for Casa Blanca guests on various excursions in the area.
